Anti Saar’s Pre-Festival Interview

Biography

Anti Saar was born in the countryside near Tartu, Estonia. Before starting to write for kids, he published three books for adults between 2006 and 2009. As a father of three (two sons and a daughter) he has got much inspiration for writing from his own children. The Estonian Children’s Literature Centre describes his writing as follows: “Saar immerses himself in the world of children and is capable of glimpsing what is special in ordinary everyday life. His stories, which tend to ricochet from reality, are fluid, witty, and sensitively worded.” As a translator from French, Saar has dealt mostly with contemporary philosophy and anthropology, having translating authors like Claude Lévi-Strauss, Gilles Deleuze, Bruno Latour etc, but he also enjoys translating demanding prose, working on Marcel Proust at present. He has won several awards for his children’s books.
