Finland – Nelli Ruotsalainen

Nelli Ruotsalainen (born in 1989) is a poet and writer whose work stems from a feminist consciousness. Ruotsalainen holds a Master of Arts in Gender Studies from the University of Helsinki (Finland) and a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies from the University of Rhode Island (USA). In 2018 she co-founded a feminist publishing platform Pesä (known today as Raikuu Collective) and self-published her debut poetry collection through it. The collection, Täällä en pyydä enää anteeksi (Here I No Longer Apologize), was met with enthusiastic reviews praising its candor and astute societal criticism. The book received a nomination for the 2019 Finnish Public Broadcast Poetry book of the year. Ruotsalainen is currently working on her second collection of poetry while on parental leave from her PhD program in Sociology. She publishes consistently in feminist and literary magazines.
