Wei Wei graduated from the Chinese Department of Nanjing University and started writing in 1994. She has published several critically acclaimed novels and essays. Her works have been listed in the rankings of Chinese novels in 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2012. She won the 3rd Lu Xun Literature Award, the 2nd China Fiction Society Award, the 10th Zhuang Chongwen Literature Award, the 9th Chinese Literature Media Award·Annual Novelist Award, the 4th Feng Mu Literature Award and various literary publications prizes. Some of her works have been translated into English, French, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Russian, Polish, Greek, Spanish, Serbian and other languages. She is currently the Dean of the Guangdong Academy of Arts.
