She studied business management at Riga Technical University and did not start writing until she was 30. Her first published book was a story for children,\u00a0<em><i>Sn\u012bpul\u012btis no Sn\u012bpu\u013cciema (Baby Long Nose from the Long Nose Village,<\/i><\/em>\u00a02017), followed immediately by two collections of short stories:\u00a0<em><i>izelpas (exhalations<\/i><\/em>, 2018) and\u00a0<em><i>L\u0101\u010du kalns (Bear Hill,<\/i><\/em>\u00a02018). In 2019, she published a book for children in two volumes, called\u00a0<em><i>Me\u017epasakas (Tales of the Forest).<\/i><\/em>\u00a0Her latest book,\u00a0<em><i>Upe (The River<\/i><\/em>, 2020), has been shortlisted for the Annual Latvian Literature Award. Rute never knew her father, but when he dies leaving her an inheritance of a country house by the river, she escapes \u2013 escapes from the city, from people, from herself. She needs not only to escape, but to try and learn to live with the pain caused by her sister\u2019s disappearance \u2013 a pain that she has lived with for 10 years.
